IMPACT: Internet Medical Education for Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Therapy
Project Overview
The IMPACT project is designed to improve the healthcare of children with heart failure using educational and informational web-based tools for physicians, patients, and their families for best practices in clinical care, research, and education.
The patient site was an information-rich, community-based website for patients and families. Here, patients and their families learned medical terminology relating to the disease and treatment possibilities. The goal was to provide a message board that enabled patients to post questions to a physician and form
communities for support.

The physician site was database-driven to collect, manage, and review clinical data of their patients with heart failure (HIPPA compliant). Participating physicians were able to look at the pooled (anonymous) data summaries for the purpose of understanding how children with heart failure were being treated and observing trends in practice. Other resources included lectures, links to relevant sites, and filtered searches to current literature. The site was administered and maintained by Dr. David Rosenthal.
