Project Overview
Our goal is to support every Medical School
course via the web both administratively (handouts, scheduling, basic
course information, etc.) and with rich content based learning tools (java
applets, interactive images, animations, interactive quizzing, streaming
video, etc.).
Project Status
Currently all of the preclinical courses and
some elective courses are on the website. We are supporting all required
clinical clerkships and have an online student evaluation form preceptors
can submit to the Clerkships coordinator. WebCT
(a course content manager application) is our underlying framework to
distribute materials via the web. New curriculum content is created for
required Medical School courses at the request of Course Directors or
with ideas generated by the Curriculum Web Project Research Assistants
or current medical students. Course content is produced using HTML, CGI,
Java, Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, Flash and Director with interactivity
as a primary goal for learning modules. An example of a very innovative
content module for Developmental Anatomy is Simbryo, developed with the
support of SUMMIT and the Anatomy Department. Take a look at the "Preview"
version of simbryo at: http://simbryo.stanford.edu
All of the required preclinical courses have streaming
video links of lectures which use Real
Video technology. The Instructional Facilities Office videotapes courses,
streams digital video files and links content on this website, for more
information contact videoaction@lanelib.stanford.edu.
