Function: The functions involve collecting tissue plasma (an ultrafiltrate of extracellular fluid), filtering of particulate objects (eg., bacteria), digestion of such objects by the macrophages within, absorption  and transport of emulsified fat from the intestine, and providing an immunological defense mechanism for the body.
